BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Dr. Maureen Drummond, President: Dr Maureen Drummond, like her husband, was born, grew up and was educated in Scotland, moving with her husband and family firstly to Provost, Alberta, then to Stettler in 1990.  She broadened her knowledge by obtaining education in business administration and accounting while the children attended school.  She has over the years held positions on the boards of the Curling Club, Figure Skating Club, Stettler Golf Club and the Festival of Lights Committee.  Presently she works as a Clinical Director of Research for a pharmaceutical company.

Dr. Alasdair Drummond, Vice-President: Dr. Drummond was born, grew up and was educated in Scotland.   He emigrated to Provost, Alberta  with his family in the summer  of 1981.   He practised medicine as a family practitioner/ anaesthetist in Provost from 1981- to 1990 as one of only two physicians there.   In 1991 he moved his family to Stettler.  Since then he has practised medicine in Stettler,  as a family practitioner/anesthetist.   He has held several offices in the Central Zone Medical Association culminating in President in 2003-2006. Up until 2015 he served in the position of Chief of Medical Staff at Stettler Hospital Complex. He has also held positions on boards within Alberta Medical Association and currently volunteers on committees within the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.   He enjoys teaching and currently holds the position of Associate Professor at the University of Calgary Department of Medicine.

Leona Thorogood, Vice-President: Leona moved to Stettler in 1983 and with her late husband started an accounting firm which is still in existence today.  Though Leona is semi-retired, she is still actively involved in the community through a variety of boards.  She is currently the chair of the Stettler Health Services Foundation and is a Vice Chair on the Stettler Hospice Society.  Along with these two boards she volunteers on the Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop board.  Leona golfs in the summer with the Stettler Ladies league and helps out whenever she can with various other projects.  Travel is a new focus and you never know where a plane might take her!  In the past she has been active with the Stettler Kinettes, her church and Heartland Youth Center to name a few things.  Leona spent 9 years as a Town councilor and enjoyed her years there as well. Raising a family, now enjoying grandchildren, Leona has made Stettler her home and adamantly believes in giving back to the community that has provided her family both a living  and a lifetstyle that is so rewarding.  Having experienced the difference that a hospice care room might give a family, she knows just how important it will be for Stettler & area residents.

Vicki Walstrom, Treasurer: Vicki moved to the Stettler area 40 years ago and is proud to call it home. She and her husband Ross enjoy their large family which boasts 15 grandchildren. Vicki likes to be active, curling in the winter months and golfing in the summer months keeps her moving. She is employed fulltime as the Accountant for Vortex Production Services and has been with the company since its inception in 2003.Vicki is also the past Treasurer of the Stettler Hamper Society and enjoys giving back to the community. The Stettler Hospice Society is a cause she supports 100 percent and is excited to watch it come to fruition. She feels everyone deserves love and care during their end of life journey.

Nancy Bauman, Director: Nancy currently works at Able Oilfield, has recently received a certificate in Reflexology and is excited for this new adventure. Nancy and her husband Murray reside on a farm near Erskine. They have 3 children who have kept them both very busy chasing them around with hockey, 4-H, softball, motocross races and freestyle motocross events. And now have 2 very precious grandchildren which keep them hopping. During those years, Nancy was very involved through coaching softball, manager for hockey teams, and volunteering at school functions, as well as various fundraising events in the community. She is also a member of the Union Hall ladies club. Nancy is very active and enjoys horse riding, camping, biking and most outdoor activities. Yes, even in the winter! After her father, Vern Raho, passed away in Mar 2011, she has hoped  for a Hospice to be set up in Stettler.  Along with her family, friends and the generous support of the Stettler and area communities, she raised over $23,000 for a palliative care bed for the SHC, by biking 212 km from Fernie, BC to Longview, AB. Her passion is caring for others and she would like to see a more compassionate “home like” setting for those during their end of life journey! Her dream has come true, as she is co-founder of the Stettler Hospice Society and is very excited for the families who will benefit from the Hospice in the future.

Rob Grandfield, Director: Rob has been a member of the Stettler community for over 40 years. He and his wife Margaret have raised their family of 3 in the community.  He has been a founder and partner of several business in the Stettler area. Rob has been involved with many of the community projects, including the Twin Arena and Pool . He has sat on several nonprofit boards within the community over the last 40 years and is looking forward to working on and with the Stettler Hospice board to advance this very worthy cause.
